The InLiquid Gallery is the physical expression of InLiquid’s mission as a hub for visual art in Philadelphia. As a non-profit providing opportunities and a platform for enhanced exposure for local artists, The Gallery is the first permanent space that offers rotating curation of our artist members’ work. The Gallery aims to provide the local and visiting public with a social destination where artwork can be seen, enjoyed, experienced, and purchased.
Bannard, Connelly, & Romberg: The Art Collection of Caroline Dunlop Millett
The InLiquid Gallery presents an exhibition solely dedicated to the collection of Caroline Dunlop Millett, examining how an art collection takes shape over time. Throughout her lifetime Millett engaged with creative talent within her social and intellectual circles. She built a truly unique collection from highly accomplished visual artists whose renown has grown over time. Among the many notable artists in her collection, this exhibition will feature Caroline’s personal favorites: Walter Darby Bannard, Chuck Connelly, and Osvaldo Romberg.
Bannard, Connelly, & Romberg – The Collection of Caroline Dunlop Millett is dedicated to the collection of Caroline Dunlop Millett. Throughout her multifaceted career as a U.S. diplomat, a historic preservation real estate developer, an adjunct professor of interior design at The University of Pennsylvania, she has collected many accolades along with many artworks. In 1976, she received a commendation from President Ford for her work in historic preservation. Bannard, Connelly, & Romberg – The Collection of Caroline Dunlop Millett reflects her experiences and relationships with the art world and its artists during her career.
Her personal relationships with the artists Bannard, Connelly, and Romberg go beyond what exists on the canvas; her stories of her experiences and deep conversations with each artist are what sparked the paintbrush to the canvas and the canvas to her home walls. She met Bannard in Washington D.C., where he was a member of the International Exhibitions Committee. She managed Connelly and secured his show “My America,” at the Warhol Museum. She continues a close and personal friendship with Romberg and his family.
A life-long art lover, Millett’s collection reflects her personal and professional journey, starting from her roots in the Midwest. In her book, Redesigning Design: Your Home As Art, she presents the question: would you like to make your personal environment a work of art? Throughout her lifetime Millett engaged with creative talent within her social and intellectual circles. She built a truly unique collection from highly accomplished visual artists whose renown has grown over time. Including Bannard, Connelly, and Romberg, Millett owns works by many other notable artists. Also included in this exhibition, smaller works by Ursula Sternberg, Tarsila do Amaral, Peggy Gyulai, and George Van Millett–an ancestor of Millett’s whose two paintings in the show she credits as “where it all started”.
In addition, small works by George Van Millett, Urusula Sternberg, and Peggy Gyulai will also be exhibited.
