Devo is a pioneer of new wave music, known for their science fiction inspired aesthetic and tongue-in-cheek social commentary. After rising to international fame in the 1980s with their single Whip It, they have had a decades-long career, celebrating the band’s 50th anniversary in 2023. Since the band formed in the wake of the Kent State shooting, they have engaged in satirical critique of consumerism, state violence, and the “de-evolution” of society, topics which are relevant today more than ever.
In collaboration with Outtake Gallery, InLiquid is excited to present a series of archival print photographs, The DEVO Prints. The portfolio includes work by Ebet Roberts, Neal Preston, Allan Tannenbaum, and Richard Alden Peterson. It focuses on the early days of Devo and their role in the punk and new wave scene of the 70s and 80s. Purchase of a DEVO print includes an exclusive invitation to a meet-and-greet with the band, hosted by InLiquid. The private meet-and-greet will take place in May when Devo visits Philadelphia to kickstart their DEVO: 50 Years of De-Evolution… Continued! tour.
