Bump, Set, Spike: An Outdoor Sculpture Installation by Bridget Purcell
* This is the new rain date for the event. It will be taking place alongside a reception for the new West Tower gallery*
Spend the evening with InLiquid and Park Towne Place on June 7, at a site-specific art installation by Bridget Purcell. Working at the intersection of sports and sculpture, Purcell will be building a colorful version of volleyball that replaces traditional sports rules with other ways to play and interact. Complete with net, boundary tape, and a variety of sports equipment, Purcell’s version will be both for use and observation. Participants will have the opportunity to modify the sculpture, using available materials. Untraditional ideas about the objects’ meanings will emerge as Purcell intervenes with them using a range of sculptural techniques. The result will be an energetic, visually evolving sculpture that invites the public to create and play.
This project is part of Art in the Open – an annual event which features artists working outdoors along the Schuylkill River Trail, responding to their surroundings.
