Park Towne Place

Hygge /ˈh(y)o͞oɡə,ˈho͝oɡə/ (noun)

a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being

As we settle into Autumn, we pull back to what makes us most comfortable: curling up with our favorite quilt by a crackling fireplace, watching the shimmering heat rise from a radiator while snow slowly falls outside our window, spending more of our time in the domestic spaces where we feel most secure and comfortable. It is that feeling of familiarity, of comfort, of home that Hygge explores.

The artists of Hygge, Daniel Clark, Constance Culpepper, Kathleen Eastwood-Riaño, Don Miller, Amy Orr, Colin Pezzano, Ahmed Salvador, and Joe Sasarak all explore themes of home: its contents, its structure, and how it reflects upon our own identities. While each of the included artists use these ideas as launching points to deeper conversations of identity, memory, and value systems, their work is all undeniably full of hygge.

Hygge is on view at the Park Towne Place Apartment Residencies until February 13th, 2022,  with an opening reception scheduled for Wednesday, November 17th.
